‘Greatness like no other’: Stars from the world of golf and beyond hail Tiger Woods

The return of Tiger Woods to the circle of major winners has prompted the world of golf and beyond to herald ‘the greatest comeback in the history of sports’.

Woods claimed his fifth green jacket and his first major title since 2008 with a one-shot victory over fellow Americans Dustin Johnson, Xander Schauffele and Brooks Koepka.

It completes a sensational turnaround for Woods, who has overcome a succession of personal and injury issues to return to golf’s zenith with another Masters victory.

Jack Nicklaus was quick to credit Woods after he won his 15th Major title in his career

Serena Williams said that Woods’s comeback shows ‘greatness like no other’

Eighteen-time major winner Jack Nicklaus was quick to congratulate Woods after watching him win his 15th major title, leaving him three behind Nicklaus’ all-time record.

It was Woods’ first major in over a decade after multiple back surgeries and personal issues looked to have cut short his pursuit of Nicklaus – and at one point his career.

‘A big ‘well done’ from me to @Tiger Woods!’ Nicklaus wrote on Twitter. ‘I am so happy for him and for the game of golf. This is just fantastic.’

Twenty-three time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams wrote on Twitter: ‘I am literally in tears watching @TigerWoods this is Greatness like no other.

‘Knowing all you have been through physically to come back and do what you just did today? Wow Congrats a million times! I am so inspired thank you buddy.’

United States President Donald Trump wrote on Twitter: ‘Watching final hole of @TheMasters. @TigerWoods is looking GREAT!’

Three-time NBA championship winner Stephen Curry hailed ‘the greatest comeback’

Former president of America Barack Obama took to Twitter to praise Woods

And Donald Trump, Obama’s successor in the White House, was also impressed

His predecessor Barack Obama tweeted: ‘Congratulations, Tiger! To come back and win the Masters after all the highs and lows is a testament to excellence, grit, and determination.’

Three-time NBA championship winner Stephen Curry called the performance the ‘greatest comeback story in sports.’

‘Congrats @TigerWoods Let me hold one of those 5 jackets one time!’ he said (@StephenCurry30).

‘Congrats Tiger! What a performance,’ wrote six-time football Super Bowl champion quarterback Tom Brady (@TomBrady).

Wayne Rooney was at Augusta on Sunday and took to Twitter to hail Woods.

‘Unbelievable day at The Masters,’ Rooney wrote. ‘Honour to watch Tiger Woods back to his best.’
