The Boys unveils what’s coming next for Homelander and Billy Butcher in the highly-anticipated fourth season, which will arrive in 2024.
Following the Season 1 finale of Gen V last Nov. 3, excitement for the premiere of The Boys Season 4 continues to build up, as new story details for the next installment dropped.
Gen V ended its 8-episode first season with the surprise appearances of two major characters from The Boys series in the form of Antony Starr’s Homelander and Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher.
Posted on the main show’s official X account, the creative team teased what fans can expect to see in Season 4, revealing some information about Homelander and Butcher’s respective storylines. It has been confirmed that Butcher’s Season 4 story arc will directly connect with the anti-hero’s mid-credits cameo in Gen V, where he somehow learned about the Supe virus created at Godolkin University’s secret facility called The Woods.
As for Homelander, The Seven leader will be facing a lawsuit in The Boys Season 4, as he stands trial for brutally killing one of Starlight’s supporters at a public rally during the Season 3 finale. In addition, the show also clarified that Season 4 will take place a month following the events of the Gen V finale. Even though fans aren’t necessarily required to watch the college-set spinoff in order to keep up with The Boys Season 4, characters from Gen V may potentially appear in the main series.
The Boys Could Run For More Than Five Seasons
The Boys creator Eric Kripke recently opened up about his vision for the future of the popular superhero series. After previously revealing his five-season plan for The Boys, Kripke admitted that he could now see the Prime Video series going much longer than he anticipated, especially when it has still been garnering lots of attention as it did when the series made its debut in 2019. “I have since realized that literally no one in history is worse at predicting the amount of seasons of a show, like literally,” he said. “I have learned my lesson [with Supernatural] and I’ve stopped predicting how many seasons these shows go. You will find out in hindsight.”
Besides Starr and Urban, The Boys Season 4 will continue to star Jack Quaid as Hughie Campbell, Erin Moriarty as Annie/ Starlight, Laz Alonso as M.M., Tomer Capone as Frenchie, Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko/ The Female, Chace Crawford as the Deep, Colby Minifie as Ashley, Claudia Doumit as Victoria Neuman, and Simon Pegg as Mr. Campbell. They will be joined by new characters in the form of two new Supes called Firecracker and Sage, played by Valorie Curry and Susan Heyward, respectively. Supernatural alum Jeffrey Dean Morgan has also joined Season 4 in an undisclosed role, reuniting him with Kripke.
In a previous interview, Starr continued to hype up Homelander’s storyline, teasing that fans should anticipate a much “weirder” season going forward. “I was looking at the person I was opposite, and I said, ‘What are we doing? I can’t believe this!'” Starr said. “I could have done anything else with my life, but here I am doing this? It was truly the most bizarre thing I’ve ever done.”
