Liverpool Player Ratings in Draw with Man Utd: Dominik Szoboszlai’s Tough Day and Two Players Underperform

Liverpool missed the chance to go back to the top of the Premier League with a disappointing 0-0 draw at home to Man Utd.

Dominik Szoboszlai unsuccessfully appeals for a penalty during

Jurgen Klopp’s men dominated much of the game at Anfield but couldn’t find a way past Andre Onana in the United goal.

It will go down as a huge missed opportunity for the Reds as United came into the game in a sorry state after losing 3-0 at home to Bournemouth and being knocked out of the Champions League at home to Bayern Munich.

Diogo Dalot was sent off for United in the dying moments of the game.

Here are Ian Doyle’s player ratings from Anfield:

Alisson Becker 7

Virtually unemployed first half but stood tall to deny Hojlund midway through second half.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 7

Sought to get Liverpool although largely from right-back position, and honours even in defensive battle with Garnacho first half. Moved into midfield for final half-hour and close with one shot.

Ibrahima Konate 7

A threat with aerial presence at corners but distribution was hugely inconsistent early on. Improved second half and decent effort saved.

Virgil van Dijk 8

Forced save from Onana with header first half and controlled rearguard effort. Rarely ruffled and dominated in the air. Another excellent showing.

Kostas Tsimikas 7

Dealt well with the abrasive Antony and a threat whenever offering himself going forward. Set-piece delivery also a danger.

Wataru Endo 6

Made a few decent interceptions before break but everything seemed a little last ditch. Got better at picking up second balls as game progressed. Booked.

Dominik Szoboszlai 4

A succession of misplaced passes and poor decisions made it an appearance to forget that prompted some grumbles from the crowd. Subbed.

Ryan Gravenberch 5

Continued his recent trend of starting brightly but quickly disappearing into the periphery until one shot deflected behind. Subbed.

Mohamed Salah 6

Only occasionally given space to run at Shaw but found more joy when floating inside, where he operated more regularly second half. Kept on going.

Darwin Nunez 5

Didn’t do enough when leading line before break and conceded a stupid booking for kicking ball away. Reacted slowly to one opening. Subbed.

Luis Diaz 6

Liverpool’s most dangerous attacker first half, regularly testing Dalot with direct running, but lost his way a bit second half. Subbed.

Cody Gakpo (for Gravenberch 61) 6

Fired a few efforts at goal and at least looked lively.

Joe Gomez (for Szoboszlai 61) 6

Shot into the side-netting after being found by Salah.

Harvey Elliott (for Nunez 78) 6

Unable to inject the same tempo as in recent cameos.

Curtis Jones (for Diaz 78) 6

Put in the work but with not much reward.
