Manager suggests Chelsea will have pay mega money to sign his 26-year-old

Southampton are going to demand mega money before selling Chelsea target Kyle Walker-Peters.

That is according to Saints manager Russell Martin.

Kyle Walker-Peters, 26, surprised many by staying at St Mary’s this season and trying to help Southampton to seal an instant return to the Premier League.

The versatile defender, who can play either full-back position, has great experience at the top level. This includes two senior England caps, too.

It’s no surprise he’s a key player this year for a Southampton side that sit third in the Championship table.

Southampton boss Martin has delivered an update on Walker-Peters by claiming there’s been no talk about him leaving this month despite certain transfer rumours.

“I spoke to Kyle. I also know his agent really well. There’s been no conversation at all about him wanting to leave,” Martin said, as quoted by Adam Blackmore’s X account.

“He’s in such a good place. I think he’s enjoying himself. It would take a lot of money to prise him away.”

Kyle Walker-Peters not thinking about leaving Southampton

Speaking via GiveMeSport earlier this week, journalist Alex Crook tipped Chelsea as one of the clubs that could come in to try and sign Walker-Peters before the January transfer window closes.

In fairness, the 26-year-old defender ticks a lot of boxes. He’s proven in the top division, plus can play right-back or left-back to a high standard.

It sounds like Southampton don’t plan on losing a key man midway through a campaign where they’re pushing for automatic promotion.

It’s unclear on how much the Saints will demand to let Walker-Peters go, but he’s not the sort of profile that Chelsea should be spending a fortune on. We view him as someone that provides perfect competition and cover for the squad.
