A retired United States soldier named Marvin Fletcher alongside his 17-year-old daughter, SaNayah Hill, have graduated from the Tidewater Community College, Virginia, USA at the same time.
Marvin Fletcher who was a veteran in the United States Army enrolled for his university degree not knowing his daughter who was still in high school had also enrolled for a certificate in emergency medical service at the same university as his.
He had spent eight years in the Army and four years in the Marines before returning to college to earn his associate degree in applied science in management.
Surprisingly, Fletcher was shocked and felt overwhelming pride when he learned that his daughter had completed her certificate in emergency medical service as a dual-enrollment student — before even finishing her junior year at Deep Creek High School in Chesapeake, Virginia, USA.
SaNayah Hill, Fletcher’s daughter who is still a 17-year-old junior at Deep Creek High School got started on her professional goals early, earned a career studies certificate in emergency medical service and is shared the graduation stage with her father.
“I never thought my daughter and I would be wearing a cap and gown together,” Fletcher said.
“As parents, we want a better start for our kids. To see SaNayah graduate with a certificate at 17, I’m really proud. A lot of kids don’t aspire to do all that.” he added.
In the United States of America, some high schools such as Deep Crick High School allow students to earn college certificates while still a student of the school.
