She went through a variety of her most ‘iconic looks,’ dating back to her early career when it was difficult for her to obtain designer clothing, forcing her to improvise her style.

The photo, taken by Annie Leibovitz for Vogue, was inspired by Salma’s then-recent appearance in Frida as the title character.
‘This next one is 2002 when I did Frida and this was in Vogue, and I was very proud to be part of Vogue for the first time in my life,’ she said.
The actress sported the fake monobrow she wore in the film, but it was the shocked-looking monkey perched on her shoulder that Salma remembered most.
‘This monkey, who was named Tyson, actually attacked me during the filming of Frida,’ she said, adding that the attack left her ‘severely injured.’

‘I was really hoping he wouldn’t go for my face,’ she added.
When Frida played at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2002, Salma revealed that she had to use fake eyebrows to create Kahlo’s distinctive unibrow.
‘My interpretation of her obsession with her eyebrows is that for her it represented freedom,’ she said. ‘But if anything, it made me feel regretful because I used to have one eyebrow and I was stupid enough to go through the pain of plucking them. Of course, now I need them.’
Unorthodox beauty: Her role as Kahlo earned Salma an Oscar nomination. She wore a fake unibrow and shaved her upper lip to make the stubble more visible for the part; shown Wednesday
