A viral Fortnite clip of Dragon Ball‘s Vegeta shredding the keytar is proving incredibly popular among anime fans, with the video recently going viral on social media.
X user @peridoxikal posted a clip of the Dragon Ball character Vegeta featured in Fortnite‘s new Festival mode. If Vegeta hitting the notes to Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” wasn’t ‘bad’ enough, the clip also features ridiculous dance emotes as he takes breaks from his keytar to shake his hips and perform choreographed moves. Captioned “This is how a Saiyan truly shows his pride,” the clip has amassed 1.4 million impressions and almost 50k likes. Some fans weren’t used to this very different side of Vegeta, but others argued that his history says otherwise.
The most popular reply was a reference to Vegeta’s actions in Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods — the franchise’s big animated theatrical return after 17 years. When the primary antagonist, Beerus, invades Earth, Vegeta is forced to entertain him, leading to the popular Vegeta Bingo Dance where fans see a once-prideful Saiyan crumble in real time. The Fortnite Festival feature seen above was launched on Dec. 9, meaning fans didn’t waste any time putting Vegeta in this compromising situation. Fortnite Festival was created by Harmonix, developers of Rock Band, and players have the option of guitar, bass, keytar, drums or singing on the mic.
This latest Fortnite feature comes as the game looks to transition to a live service model, adding new games regularly. With calls for the revival of games like Club Penguin and other kid-friendly titles increasing, Fortnite clearly hopes to keep kids entertained through as many options as possible. This naturally leads to audiences across all fandoms getting in on the fun, with anime fans being no exception. Whether it’s a Japanese high-schooler recreating the Suzume film in Fortnite, new My Hero Academia skins or Jujutsu Kaisen collaborations, Fortnite‘s anime influence is evident.
Now, Dragon Ball anime and gamer fans alike look forward to potentially seeing Daima characters cross over to the new Sparking! Zero game just announced. Fans on social media went wild with theories on who would cameo in the game, with Goku naturally being the top pick. While Sparking! Zero has no release date, Daima‘s release window and episode count were revealed by a Toei executive last month. The series’ synopsis is described: “Due to a conspiracy, Goku and his friends are turned small. In order to fix things, they’ll head off to a new world! It’s a grand adventure with intense action in an unknown and mysterious world.”
