The actor shared his favorite Beyoncé tunes and discussed ‘Wonka’ and ‘Dune: Part Two’ in an interview

Timothée Chalamet is commenting on a memorable concert experience.

“That was great. Hard to be present,” the Wonka star said of attending the Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour in September during a Dec. 18 interview with MTV’s Josh Horowitz.

Asked for his favorite concert-going experience of 2023, Chalamet, 27, drew a blank before Horowitz reminded him of the Sept. 4 Beyoncé appearance in Los Angeles.

“You went to Beyoncé. That is documented, I will say that,” joked Horowitz, as Chalamet laughed and said, “That’s right.”

The concert marked the actor’s first public outing with Kylie Jenner, 26, after a source confirmed to PEOPLE in April that the two had been “hanging out and getting to know each other.”

“I was actually surprised,” Chalamet told Horowitz of the concert. “I’m not, like, Beyhive-level, but I thought I knew way more [songs]. But I guess I know some of the more basic hits.”

Beyoncé’s 2009 single “Halo,” he added, is one such hit. “‘Halo’ was a great, moody, 12-year-old head against the bus [window] song.”

In a video shared on social media, Chalamet and Jenner could be seen at the Sept. 4 concert chatting, laughing and kissing while standing in a box at SoFi Stadium.

Her sister Kendall Jenner also stood nearby. Jenner’s siblings Kim Kardashian and Khloé Kardashian, as well as her nieces North and Penelope, were among the many stars attending the Los Angeles stop of the Renaissance World Tour.

The MTV interview also covered Chalamet’s big year on the big screen: Wonka, starring the actor as Roald Dahl’s eccentric chocolatier, premiered Friday, while the delayed Dune: Part Two arrives in theaters March 1.

Playing Willy Wonka, the Oscar nominee recalled he “found a wonderful rhythm” while filming in England, although at first the pressure to bring a beloved character new life felt “stifling.”

“It felt like, ‘Oh, man, this is a huge task I’m taking on and a big character. And I hope this works,’ ” said Chalamet. “It was really humbling. Compared to The King, even, or Dune, or things that were evidently going to be exhausting, this was sneakily really physically challenging.”

He also confirmed that Greta Gerwig had wanted to cast both him and Saoirse Ronan in Barbie after working with them on Lady Bird and Little Women, but wasn’t sure what role that would have been. “I think it was one of these rejected Kens or Barbies,” said Chalamet.

“It’s a rule for Saoirse and I,” he joked of his costar. “We gotta coordinate, we gotta move in unison.”

Of reprising his leading role as Paul Atreides in the upcoming follow-up to 2021’s Dune, Chalamet shared that costar Austin Butler “crushed it.” Filming the sequel felt “amazing,” he added, because “it felt like everybody’s game had stepped up.”

For her part, Jenner listed the sci-fi epic starring her beau as one of her favorites to watch. When asked if she’s a Dune fan by WSJ Magazine in October, she admitted with a smile, “I do love that movie.”
