Marvel at the first factory-raced Alpine A110 1600 S Berlinette

One of our favourite cars coming up for auction at Aguttes’ Tour Auto sale on April 17th is this stunning ex-works Alpine A110 1600 S Berlinette. We had to take a closer look…

There aren’t that many rear-engined models that hold a significant place in the automotive history books. Sure, there’s the godlike Porsche 911, and the infamous Chevrolet Corvair, but what do you choose if you’ve grown tired of Porsche’s flat-six wunderkind and don’t fancy catching fire in the aforementioned Chevy? Our thoughts immediately turn to the beautifully sculpted Alpine A110 designed by Giovanni Michelotti.

At the moment, there is perhaps no better example for sale on the Classic Driver Market than this stunning 1969 Alpine A110 1600 S. Not only does this Alpine look fantastic in its two-tone white and blue livery, but it also holds the honour of being the very first A110 1600 S entered in competition by the factory. Most notably driven by Jean Vinatier in-period, this lightweight French sports car managed to secure 2nd place at both the 1969 International Lorraine Rally and the highly competitive Ronde Cévenole. This car’s previous owner has cared for it since 1981, which suggests it’s as much of a joy to own as it is to look at. If you’re looking for some rear-engined fun, you could hardly do better than this beautifully patinated Alpine, so be sure to check out Aguttes’ Tour Auto sale on April 17th.
