‘Here We Go’: Fabrizio Romano confirms Man City midfield signing on six-year deal

Manchester City have secured the signing of River Plate and Argentina youth international starlet Claudio Echeverri, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Officials at the Etihad Stadium have battled with strong interest from across the game to claim the talents of the rising teenager, with the likes of FC Barcelona and Chelsea understood to have monitored the development of the player.

The signing of Claudio Echeverri has been regarded as a top priority for those in charge of securing the next phase of rising names in the game for Manchester City, following on from recent signings from across Europe and South America.

The last few seasons have also seen Manchester City and the City Football Group claim the likes of Yan Couto, Savinho, and Maximo Perrone, whilst the signing of Julian Alvarez from River Plate has formed a strong relationship between the two clubs.

Now, Claudio Echeverri can be regarded as part of the ever-growing list, with fresh reports on Sunday evening detailing the current status of an agreement for a player who captained Argentina at the recent FIFA under-17 World Cup.

According to the information of transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Claudio Echeverri’s proposed transfer to Manchester City can now be defined as ‘here we go’ after documents were exchanged between the two clubs to seal an agreement.

It is detailed that the 17-year-old midfielder will remain at his current club River Plate until December 2024, before travelling to Europe to have his future decided by Manchester City during the January 2025 transfer window.

Claudio Echeverri has agreed to a six-year agreement with the Treble winners of last season, who made it five trophies in a single calendar year after winning the UEFA Super Cup and UEFA Champions League.

At present it remains unknown as to what Manchester City will decide to do with the player when he arrives in Europe next winter, however there remains a possibility that he could be developed within Pep Guardiola’s first-team playing squad.

A move on loan within the City Football Group remains an option however, with Girona a primary destination for some of Manchester City’s most highly-rated talents given the Spanish club’s ranking in the La Liga table this season.
