The Kansas City Chiefs take on the Chargers at SoFi Stadium on Week 18 and Mahomes isn’t expected to be on the pitch.
The Kansas City Chiefs were considered one of the main favorites to win the Super Bowl before the start of this term and they haven’t let their fans down.
The current NFL champions have been one of the best sides in the competition, led once again by their QB star Patrick Mahomes.
Andy Reid’s men are leading the AFC West division standings, with a record of 10 wins and six losses, two more wins than second-placed Denver Broncos. They secured the section’s top spot after defeating the Cincinnati Bengals in their last game, so they will be, once again, competing in the playoffs.
Their opponents, meanwhile, are sitting bottom with only five victories, so they will be looking to close their campaign with a win over one of the top teams in front of their fans at SoFi Stadium.
Mahomes won’t play against the Chargers
The Chiefs are a team on a mission. They want to make history again and retain the title won last term against the Philadelphia Eagles at Super Bowl LVII.
They have done part of the job by qualifying for the postseason and doing it as the best team in their section. They have won their eighth straight AFC West title.
Taking into consideration that there’s nothing at stake in their Week 18 clash against the Chargers, Reid prefers to sit Mahomes so that he can rest and get ready for the offseason.
“(Patrick Mahomes) won’t play. Blaine Gabbert will take over at that spot and we’ll rotate the other guys in as we go”, Reid told the media.
The two-time Super Bowl champion has ended the current regular season with 27 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 16 matches.
