The Spice Girls set to become first female group to feature on an entire set of Royal Mail stamps to celebrate their 30th anniversary

It’s an honour previously bestowed to Queen Elizabeth and British bands such as the Beatles, the Rolling StonesPink Floyd and Iron Maiden.

But, ever-the-rule breakers, the Spice Girls have become the first female group to feature on a special stamp set issued by the Royal Mail.

The stamps will be released into circulation on January 11 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of one of the world’s most successful pop groups.

Speaking of the honour, the band said: ‘When we formed the Spice Girls we couldn’t have dreamt that 30 years later we would be the first female group to be dedicated an entire stamp collection, that’s Girl Power!’

Featuring band members Emma Bunton, 47, Victoria Beckham, 49, Geri Halliwell-Horner, 51, Melanie Chisholm, 49, and Melanie Brown, 48, it is the first time Royal Mail has dedicated an entire stamp issue to a female group.

The set of 10 stamps will show images from their most famous performances from their 1997 Brit Awards show to the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympic Games.

One stamp has a close-up of a 25-year-old Geri Halliwell in her iconic Union flag minidress during their 1997 Brit Awards show.

Another features Victoria Beckham, affectionately known as Posh Spice, striking a pose during a 2008 show in New York.

Each band member has an entire stamp dedicated to a glitzy picture of them while the remaining five slots are group shots from international performances such as Instanbul in 1997 and San Jose in 2007 – appreciating their global reach.

The band is only the sixth music group to feature in a dedicated stamp issue, following The Beatles in 2007, Pink Floyd in 2016, Queen in 2020, The Rolling Stones in 2022 and Iron Maiden in 2023.

The set also includes a further five stamps, presented in a miniature sheet, featuring individual images from the Spice World photoshoot, showing each band member with her nickname, Baby Spice, Posh Spice, Sporty Spice, Ginger Spice and Scary Spice for Bunton, Beckham, Chisholm, Halliwell-Horner and Brown respectively.

David Gold, Royal Mail director of external affairs and policy said: ‘The Spice Girls have been a force to be reckoned with since they formed as a group in 1994.

‘We are proud to celebrate the most successful female music group ever seen, not only for their music but their enduring influence over so many aspects of our lives.’
