A fight between a Yonko and a Fleet Admiral would surely be memorable to One Piece fans.
When it comes to the elite fighters in the One Piece world, the Admirals and the Yonko have always been important talking points among the fans. This is simply down to the fact that these are the elite fighters in the story whose strength is believed to be of the highest order in their respective ranks. When it comes to the pirates, the Yonko are believed to be the elites of the new era and, similarly, in the case of the Marines, the Admirals are believed to be the greatest military asset of the World Government.
Of course, when it comes to the Admirals, there is one position that is especially intriguing and that is the position of the Fleet Admiral. Historically, this position has been occupied by some of the strongest characters who, potentially, might just be on the same level as the Yonko.
The Fleet Admirals Vs The Admirals
When one wants to compare the various Fleet Admirals to the Yonko of the One Piece world, they have to first compare the Fleet Admirals to the Admirals. In terms of authority, at the very least, the Fleet Admiral is clearly superior to the Admirals. They sit on top of all functions and, within the Navy itself, they are the highest authority. This has been seen in the story on many occasions. When One Piece began, Sengoku was the Fleet Admiral and this figure ruled even over the likes of the Three Admirals of the Marines. Before Sengoku, Kong was the Fleet Admiral of the Marines and fans don’t really know how strong he was, however, the fact that he was able to reach this position in itself is proof enough that he was a hefty challenge for any pirate.
Of course, following the events of the Paramount War, Sengoku resigned and thus began a battle between Kuzan and Sakazuki for the position of Fleet Admiral. Of course, the stronger one would end up getting the position and that was none other than Sakazuki. Akainu ended up becoming the new Fleet Admiral of the Marines and this clearly confirmed him to be stronger than any other Admiral. At the very least, fans can clearly expect the Fleet Admiral of the Marines to be stronger than the Admirals. Even though the Fleet Admirals are directly elected from the Admirals, that doesn’t mean their strength can’t go up when they are promoted.
The strength of a Fleet Admiral and an Admiral is not the same. Their portrayal is different and their strength is different as well. Just because they used to be Admirals before doesn’t mean that their strength remains the same even when they are promoted. Following that logic, Kuzan, Sakazuki, and Borsalino should be as strong as the Vice Admirals as they were all Vice Admirals before they were made Admirals. There is a clear progression here and the one who sits atop the pecking order is clearly the Fleet Admiral.
The Fleet Admirals Vs The Yonko
Now that it has been established that the Fleet Admirals are somewhat stronger than the Admirals, one can compare them to the Yonko, who, at this point, are confirmed to be far stronger than the Admirals. This has been seen in the story on many occasions, such as when Luffy defeated Kizaru despite not being at his best and, Even before that, Shanks being able to scare away the likes of Green Bull from miles away. The Admirals are certainly strong, however, they are not on the same level as the Yonko of the One Piece world. The Fleet Admirals, however, pose a different problem.
When looking at the previous Admirals in One Piece, Sengoku was considered to be a very intriguing figure. He was a legend held in the same light as the likes of Whitebeard, Roger, and even Garp. Sengoku was clearly an overpowered figure and, in One Piece chapter 965, Roger himself clearly stated that if the Marines wanted to pose any kind of a challenge to him, then they should bring Garp or Sengoku with them. This is a clear indication that Roger acknowledges Sengoku’s strength and relishes a battle with him. In terms of portrayal, Sengoku, as the Fleet Admiral, is clearly superior to any Admiral in One Piece.
Then, fans also have the fact that Sengoku is a user of the Color of the Supreme King. So far, only two Marines in One Piece have been shown to be users of this incredible power and Sengoku is one of them. The other one is, of course, Garp. While Sengoku had not been confirmed to be a user of the advanced version of the Color of the Supreme King, for him to be able to infuse Conqueror’s Haki shouldn’t be a surprise to any fan. Usually, what separates the Yonko from the Admirals is the fact that these pirates, in most cases, are users of not just overpowered Devil Fruits but also the Color of the Supreme King, which makes sense, given that they are Emperors of the Sea and not mere puppets like the Admirals.
In the case of the Fleet Admiral, however, having Conqueror’s Haki does make sense. These are the rulers of the Marines in a way, and they are in direct contention with the Yonko for supremacy over the seas. The fact that Sengoku had this power only implies that the Fleet Admiral is, perhaps, closer in strength to the Yonko compared to any other Marines in the One Piece world.
Are The Yonko Stronger Than The Fleet Admirals?
To answer the question of the Yonko versus the Fleet Admirals, one has to look at it on a case-by-case basis. Fans do not know anything about Kong so nothing can be assumed just yet. At the very least, he is someone worthy of fighting a Yonko, however, whether he can defeat them or not is completely questionable. Sengoku, on the other hand, poses a different equation altogether. Sengoku is incredibly powerful and, for him, defeating a Yonko is potentially possible. However, for him to lose to a Yonko is equally possible. At the very least, fans can say that he is a Marine on the same level as the likes of the Yonko, however, certainly not superior to them. Then again, when he is compared to the legends of the old era, Sengoku is certainly at the bottom of the pecking order. Whitebeard and Roger were in completely different leagues and Garp was up there with Roger as well. Sengoku is certainly the weakest of the lot and that means he might have some trouble dealing with the strongest of the Yonko as well.
When speaking of Sakazuki, fans only know that he lost terribly to Whitebeard in Marineford and that version of Whitebeard was already dying and couldn’t even utilize Conqueror’s Haki Infusion. Despite that, he ended up losing the battle and received big injuries. That said, over the 2 years, Sakazuki could have strengthened himself even further. As a Fleet Admiral, the biggest power that he can receive right now is Devil Fruit Awakening and, potentially, the Color of the Supreme King. Devil fruit Awakening is something that he will most certainly receive, however, the same cannot be said for the Color of the Supreme King.
In case he receives one of them, then this particular Fleet Admiral will still be inferior to the Yonko. However, if he ends up receiving both of them, then he can be perceived to be on the same level as the Yonko, at the very least. Despite that, however, for any Yonko other than Buggy to defeat Sakazuki should still be a possibility. As such, giving the benefit of the doubt to the Fleet Admiral leads to them being very close to the Yonko in terms of power, however, likely still inferior overall.
