A 6-year-old genius boy named Chandler Hughes has become the youngest American to join the organization of people with high IQ – Mensa, after scoring over 99% on her entry test.
Chandler Hughes, a Texas teen, recently became a member of Mensa, the world’s largest and oldest high-IQ society. His parents mentioned that they recognized that he was a prodigy at a very young age.
Mensa is an organization of intelligent persons across the world. To qualify for Mensa membership, applicants must take an approved intelligence test and score at or above the 98th percentile.
Hughes’s father stated that he was just 1 year and 9 months old when he had already begun reading. He added that from that age Hughes continued to show more signs that he was knowledgeable beyond his years.
”He was in pre-kindergarten but finished on a second-grade reading level, second-grade math level,” Hughes’s father said. The parents said they plan to continue to nurture their child emphasizing that he is surrounded by a supportive community.
“Just working on the socializing factor, I think, for us is the next piece,” Hughes’s father said. “He’s in a great environment where his teachers, his peers all support him. Just seeing how we can take this and increase literacy and math rates in our community, and for him to continue to succeed in life,” he added.
Hughes stated that his future aspirations is to become a Medical Doctor as he wishes to help sick people. ”A medical doctor, because I want to help people when they are sick,” he told NBC news.
