Mo Salah is pictured grinning as he exits the field following his successful recovery from his injury sustained during the Africa Cup of Nations

Mohammed Salah has been spotted smiling after Egypt’s draw against Ghana at Afcon in a boost to his country and Liverpool.

The Reds icon was forced off during the Group B clash with a hamstring issue and appeared to be fighting back tears.

Salah, 31, was subbed off in the first half after the forward held the back of his leg before falling to the ground.

The Egypt captain looked devastated as he was tended to by the medical staff before shaking his head and walking from the pitch.

Liverpool fans were immediately concerned and feared Salah could be facing a spell on the sidelines.

But a video that has gone viral shows the winger leaving the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium with a smile on his face.

Sports reporter James Pearce said: “We don’t know anything. I spoke with him last night. They are doing further assessments.

“In the moment it was a shock. He felt it and we know how rarely Mo goes off so there was something.”

Egypt manager Rui Victoria remained positive that the issue was not serious but did not give a thorough update.

He said: “I hope it’s not a big problem. But it was a problem in the first half, because we lost one time to make a substitution.

“In the second half, we only had two moments to make substitutions.

“Now I don’t know because it’s [too] early to see something. I think it’s not dangerous, but let’s see if Salah recovers.”

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp added today that he has spoken to Salah but didn’t yet know the extent of the injury.

He said: “We don’t know anything. I spoke with him last night, and he will have further assessment.

“Then we will know more. He felt it, and we all know how rarely Mo goes off, so it’s definitely something. We will see.”

The game finished 2-2 with Egypt levelling twice after West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus bagged a brace for Ghana.

Eight-time Africa Cup of Nations champions Egypt have drawn both games so far and need to beat Cape Verde on Monday to qualify for the knockout stage.
