Rihanna spoke to ELLE last February about her beauty philosophy. “My mantra has always been and always will be, ‘Beauty is there to have fun with. It should never feel like pressure or a uniform,’” she said. “I hope that carries on, because it’s an incredibly joyful and freeing way to live.”

She also addressed how being a mother has changed her approach to makeup. Rihanna’s appearance at the Dior show is one of her first big appearances since welcoming her second son, Riot.

“Becoming a mother has only added to the inspiration in my life,” she said. “I’ve had to find the balance between an efficient routine that maximizes precious ‘me’ time and full glam, because I really enjoy that colorful creative process.”

Last month, she recounted to ELLE what her favorite red carpet looks have been, calling them “worlds” she makes.

“There are two different worlds that I created,” she said. “One was butt-naked with jewels and crystals all over me for the CFDA Awards, and I was like, ‘This is the 𝑠e𝑥iest moment. Nothing I ever wear will top this.’ Then, right after that, for a performance at the Grammys, I wore a full men’s suit, and I think that encapsulated my entire range of style at the time going from one to the other. It was super authentic to what I was feeling at that time.”
