Real Madrid are inarguably the biggest club in world football, and their stature is proven time and again during transfer windows. The biggest of players reject offers from other clubs once they come into the picture.
Jude Bellingham is the latest example of this. Despite having offers from Liverpool, Manchester City, and Chelsea from his homeland, the Englishman chose to sign for Madrid for €103 million.
The only player who has consistently flaked them is Kylian Mbappe, choosing to stay at Paris Saint-Germain despite offers from Madrid summer after summer.
However, this saga may finally be coming to an end this time around, with Madrid confident about sealing his signing. And should he choose to renew at PSG once again, Florentino Perez will likely not come back with an offer.
Madrid will instead look elsewhere for reinforcements, and of course, one of the options could be Manchester City’s Erling Haaland. Their interest in the Norweigian is well-documented, but no move has been made so far.
While the Cityzens are ready to offer him a contract extension, Haaland is prepared to wait to see what happens with the Mbappe to Madrid saga before taking his final decision, as per a report from AS.
Haaland is worried not about playing with Mbappe, though. What he is concerned with is whether Madrid will be able to pay both their high salaries and still comply with the FFP regulations.
If anything, a clause in his Man City contract allows a club from outside of England to activate his release clause for cheap.
The striker does feel important at City, though. He has been in the Premier League for only two seasons so far, and has not only won everything possible, but is also the protagonist for the side.
He does, however, link his future to Pep Guardiola’s. Should the Spaniard, for whatever reason choose to leave City in the near future, Haaland is expected to follow him out the door.
That said, Haaland also realises that Madrid want to prioritise Mbappe’s signing before his. And should the move go through, it would be better for him to renew his contract with Man City for now.
