Twin sisters named Kyla and Kayla Frey have graduated from Frederick A. Douglass High School in New Orleans, United States with a 4.6 grade point average. Their outstanding achievement earned them 5 million dollars worth of scholarships to study at top universities.
Kayla graduated with 4.69 and was the valedictorian and Kyla graduated with a 4.6 grade point average as the fourth in her class. The twins, from Gentily both earned $5 million in funding to study at the university.
They were able to graduate with excellent grade despite facing challenges such as the Covid-19 Pandemic and the Hurricane attack whole in high school. The Frey twins were also active members of other extracurricular activities.
Kayla participated in extracurricular activities such as softball, where she was recognized as the Scholar Athlete of the Year as a junior.
She was also a member of the award-winning Aspen Challenge Team, a statistician for the football team, and was also involved in community service initiatives such as Operation Hope 4 NOLA.
Kayla was also an active member of several student organizations including the National Honor Society, the Bard Ambassador Program, the Bard Student Leadership Council, the Total Black Out Organization, and the African American Studies Club.
She was a reporter for the school newspaper and was even named a Gates Scholarship recipient. Kayla said even though she felt tired toward the end of the school year, her parents helped her stay focused and on track.
“I was determined to not fail, so I had to do what I had to do, and I got it done. I used my syllabus to plan out my studies, and I always made sure I was prepared for class no matter what extracurriculars I was involved in. School always came first,” Kayla said.
Kyla on the other hand said that although the advanced college prep classes in her senior year were challenging, they gave her the experience and skills she will need to succeed when she moves to Baton Rouge in less than three months.
Kyla was a semifinalist for the Gates Scholarship and was a member of the AP Pathways program in 10th grade. She was also a Peer Tutor for the Bard Ambassador Program and an active member of the National Honor Society.
Kayla plans to attend Yale University where she wants to double major in Political Science and Sociology, and eventually go to Yale Law School while Kyla wants to attend Louisiana State University where she wants to major in Kinesiology to prepare for a career in an athletic trainer in the National Football League.
Kayla said she initially wanted to see how much money she could earn in scholarships, but she applied to Yale because she knew a lot of successful people had graduated from Ivy League schools.
”I have to admit, I was quite surprised when I got the acceptance email because it’s so competitive. I wanted to go out of state for college, I love the location, and I couldn’t pass up the amazing financial award package they gave me,” Kayla said.
She stated that her package which includes full tuition, room and board, and other personal expenses makes her happy because she would be debt-free. Kyla said she is a big sports fan, and she chose Louisiana University for a reason.
Kyla said she chose Louisiana University over many other schools because it offers a strong kinesiology program and a rich sports heritage and both are important in helping her reach her career goal of being an athletic trainer in professional sports.
