Henry Cavill reveals he hates filming ๐‘ e๐‘ฅ scenes and brands them ‘overused’ and an ‘excuse to see people wilth less clothing on’

Henry Cavillย has revealed he hates filming ๐‘ e๐‘ฅ scenes and slammed them as being ‘overused’ in cinema and an ‘excuse to see people with less clothing on’.

The Jersey-born actor, 40, has endured raunchy shoots throughout his career, namely in his breakout The Tudors and more recentlyย Netflix‘s The Witcher.

But the former Superman star said the scenes left him feeling ‘uncomfortable’ and often added little to the narrative.

While he said they can sometimes be ‘great’ in aiding storytelling in movies, Henry claimed human imagination would ‘trump’ anything put on the screen anyway.

‘I don’t understand them – I’m not a fan,’ Henry told Sunday’s instalment of theย Happy Sad Confused podcast.

The former Superman star (seen in an intimate scene in 2007’s The Tudors) said the scenes left him feeling ‘uncomfortable’ and often added little to the narrative

‘I think there are circumstances where a ๐‘ e๐‘ฅ scene actually is beneficial to a movie, rather than just the audience.

‘I think sometimes they’re overused these days and it’s when you have a sense where you’re going “Is this really necessary or is it people just with less clothing on”.

‘And that’s where you start to get more uncomfortable and you’re thinking “There’s not a performance here, there’s not a piece which is going to carry through to the rest of the movie”.’

However, Henry did admit there was a time and a place for racy scenes.

‘I think ๐‘ e๐‘ฅ scenes can be great in a movie, they can really help with the story telling, but most of the time the human imagination is going to trump it,’ he added.

‘So, it can be a little bit of a cop-out if a TV show or a movie is just filled with gyrating bodies and you’re going “Okay, but what is this doing for us apart from the idea of oh naked person, great”. [I’m] not a fan of doing them.’

But a younger Henry admitted there was a rather awkward moment during a ๐‘ e๐‘ฅ scene in his breakout role The Tudors.

Henry played Charles Brandon in the 2007 TV series, and admitted that he was left very embarrassed when, then 23 years old, he got an erection while filming.

A younger Henry admitted there was a rather awkward moment during a ๐‘ e๐‘ฅ scene in his breakout role The Tudors (pictured as character Charles Brandon)

‘It’s only happened to me once,’ he told Men’s Fitness in 2015.

‘A girl had to be on top of me, she had spectacular breasts and I hadn’t rearranged my stuff into a harmless position. She’s basically rubbing herself all over me and, um, it got a bit hard.’

He apologised profusely afterwards, admitting: ‘It’s not great when you’re in a professional acting environment and somebody gets a b***r is it? No, not acceptable.’

It comes after Henry got aย surprise revelation about his first Bond auditionsย in the 2000s while out on the promotional trail for the new spy action comedy filmย Argylle.

During an appearance onย SiriusXM’s The Spotlight With Jessica Shawย Henry was joined by Argylle director Matthew Vaughn, whereย inevitably the topic turned to arguably the most famous of all spies within the storytelling genres.

While disappointed in not landing the Bond gig during the search for the new 007, Henry did benefit from one of those unforeseen silver linings in life.

This one happened nearly two-decades ago when Matthew had a conversation withย Daniel Craigย about how the Bond auditions were going at the time, and the actor pointed out that Henry was also in the running.

Henry, 40, seemed to be surprised when he learned that the search for the new 007 James Bond in 2000’s came down to him and Daniel Craig during an interview onย SiriusXM’s The Spotlight With Jessica Shaw

It was that meeting that put the Superman actor on Matthew’s radar, which ultimately led to the leading man working with him for the first time on the fantasy adventure film Stardust (2007).

Knowing Henry would be hesitant in revealing too much since he’s reportedly back in the running again for 007, Matthew took the lead in telling the story of how he learned of the American actor.

‘It was really bizarre because when Henry was auditioning for Bond, I was at Pinewood [Studios] and Daniel [Craig] was as well, right?

‘And I’d go off and meet with Daniel and he’d say what’s going on. He said, “There’s this young guy, Henry Cavill, who I think they’re seeing as well,”‘ the filmmaker recalled of the conversation.

Matthew then seemed to surprise Henry when he told him that the auditions came down to him and Craig, but the producer’s choice won out.

‘I was like, “Well, who’s this guy who got down to the last two for Bond?” So, that’s how I discovered you because you were auditioning,’ he shared.
