Lil Wayne opened up about their first meeting at a concert in Ohio over two decades ago.

The five-time Grammy Award winner was in school himself when he first heard about LeBron wanting to attend his show.

Lil Wayne told NBA on TNT: “I had a show in Ohio, during a tour.

“[Management called me] to say ‘I got a player out there in Ohio, he wants to come to your show. He gon’ be the one. He’s a young Michael Jordan.’

“They said ‘he’s a high school player’. I said can he even come to the show?!

“I then had to remind myself I was in high school too.

“What I remember about that day, [fellow rapper] Juelz Santana for some reason was there.

“He came and met up with me to my room. It meant I stayed in my room an extra hour, hour and a half.

“When I got downstairs, [LeBron] was still there in a Suburban.”

The rap star went on to explain why he suddenly understood the hype surrounding LeBron.

He continued: “What I remember was his arm was in a cast. I saw that he was protecting that. And protecting it as in being seen.

“And that’s what told me right there – he must be somebody.

“He remembers that night, I remember that night. It was an unforgettable time.”

Shortly after their meeting, LeBron was taken as the No. 1 overall pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Since then, the Akron native has become one of the NBA’s greatest-ever players.

He continues to play at the age of 38 and is chasing a fifth NBA title this season with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Last season, he overtook Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the leading scorer in league history.
