Lara Trump for Senate? Republicans eye the president-elect’s daughter-in-law for Congress

Speculation has begun swirling that Lara Trump could be the perfect fit for a place in Congress.

Donald Trump’s glamorous daughter-in-law, 42, has been co-chairing the Republican National Committee since March and has recently been praised for overseeing the dominant Republican wins in the 2024 election.

The mother of two married Eric Trump in 2014 and has worked in Trump’s orbit ever since, being a fixture on his three presidential campaigns.

After reports Monday indicated that Sen. Marco Rubio will be joining his upcoming administration as Secretary of State, the question of who will replace the Florida lawmaker has quickly cropped up.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will now be forced to select a replacement for the veteran lawmaker who has served since 2011 – and Trump’s daughter-in-law has been mentioned as a contender by several Republicans.

‘I’m actually going to make a public call for Gov. DeSantis to appoint Lara Trump to fill Marco Rubio’s term in office,’ Republican Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna said Tuesday on a conservative talk show.

‘I think she is the best fit,’ Luna said, adding Lara is ‘largely responsible for securing president Trump’s win.’

Lara Trump also would likely be able to win the Senate seat in two years when the election for Rubio’s vacated seat will be held, Luna believes.

‘I think Lara Trump would avoid a really nasty primary in two years when that seat then comes open. And I think that she has the qualifications, she proved herself as a national leader.’

But Luna is not the only lawmaker calling for Lara Trump’s Senate appointment.

Freshman Sen. Katie Britt, R-Ala., also is backing the RNC co-chair.

Britt told Axios Tuesday Lara Trump would be a ‘tremendous pick’ and also cited her ‘historic win’ while overseeing the RNC.

‘She understands the America First agenda,’ said Britt, who is also 42-year-old working mother.

‘For me, I think she would be a tremendous pick, a voice for hard working families and another mom of school aged kids that understands what we’re up against, and that’s to fight to protect the American dream,’ the Alabama senator said.

Britt’s fellow Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville, also liked the idea of Lara Trump as a possible co-worker.

‘I think she’d be good If she wants to get into it,’ Tuberville told DailyMail.com.

Montana Republican Senator-elect Tim Sheehy similarly said Lara Trump joining Congress sounds like ‘a good idea.’

‘I don’t know anything about Florida politics. I’m from Montana,’ Sheehy told DailyMail.com. ‘But it’s sounds like a good idea to me. We’ll see what happens.’

Other Republicans, meanwhile, stayed silent when asked their thoughts about Trump’s daughter-in-law joining the Senate.

Sens. Steve Daines of Montana and Chuck Grassley of Iowa both did not answer questions from DailyMail.com about Lara Trump’s possible appointment to the upper chamber.

Billioniare X owner Elon musk on Tuesday also threw his support behind Lara.

‘Lara Trump is genuinely great,’ he posted.

Lara was eyed as a potential Senate candidate for North Carolina in 2021.

She eventually decided against it and her father endorsed Republican Sen. Ted Budd.

Several other names have also been floated to replace Rubio.

Florida Attorney General Ashely Moody and DeSantis chief of staff James Uthmeier have also been reported as possible replacements.
