“What were they thinking?” – Venus Williams pokes fun at sister Serena Williams & her husband Alexis Ohanian as parents-of-two have night out in Miami

Serena Williams has shown that mums to newborn babies can still have a social life after she hit the bright lights of Miami with husband Alex Ohanian recently. But she got some online stick from sister Venus as a consequence.

Serena gave birth in the summer to her second daughter, Adria River Ohanian, and has not been seen out in public at night since. But that all changed when she attended the grand opening of a new waterfront Italian restaurant in Miami called Cassadona.

Reddit founder Ohanian shared a photo on Instagram from the event alongside his other half, who was wearing a confident mustard yellow two-piece

Ohanian wrote: “Mom & Dad’s first night out since @adiraohanian blessed us. Thanks @davidgrutman and congrats on what will surely be another tremendous success in Casadonna!”

It didn’t take long for Venus Williams to get in on the act. Sharing the photo of Serena on her own reel, Venus wrote: “What about 𝚋𝚊𝚋𝚢 sis @serenawilliams 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁ing it?!”

But although she was happy to highlight Serena’s special knack of making sportswear look ultra-fashionable, older sister Venus couldn’t resist following it up with a dig at the celebrity power couple.

“Look at these crazy parents out until 10pm what were they thinking??”, Venus wrote followed by two crying with laughter emojis.

Williams and Ohanian weren’t the only A-listers in attendance at the opening of Casadonna. They were joined by Caroline Wozniacki, current world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, Victoria Beckham, Canadian model Winnie Harlow and pop stars Camila Cabello and Nicky Jam.

Serena’s family of three became four when she gave birth to Adira in August. Her first child, Olympia was born in September 2017. Williams was bed-ridden in hospital for six weeks following the first birth after suffering a pulmonary embolism.

Just under a year later, she revealed that she had been suffering from postnatal depression.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion eventually returned to tennis but retired for good in September 2022 at the US Open before revealing in May of this year that she was pregnant with her second child.

Older sister Venus is still active on the WTA Tour, despite being 43, but has been dogged by injuries this season that have severely limited her time on the court.

Both sisters have a significant following on social media. Serena can boast 17m followers on Instagram, while Venus has 2 million followers. Alex Ohanian has 809,000 followers on the social media platform.
