Robert Downey Jr. shares sweet hug with Dolittle co-star Emma Thompson before pair put on VERY animated display at film’s London screening

It has already been called the first worst movie of the year by several critic reviews.

But that did not stop Robert Downey Jr. from putting on an animated display at the Dolittle screening in London on Saturday.

The Iron-Man star 54 , looked delighted as he larked about alongside his co-star Emma Thompson, 60, and his wife Susan.

Embrace: Robert Downey Jr. and Emma Thompson put on an animated display at the Dolittle screening in London on Saturday

The Avengers star was dressed in a pale burgundy loose-fitting suit paired with a checked coat with a slash of black tiger print across the arm.

The film’s lead wore a pair of Dr. Martens on his feet and a crimson scarf around his neck.

The star put on an affectionate display with the gorgeous Emma who dazzled in a navy coat dress with a gold leaf pattern over it.

Larking about: The 54-year-old appeared in high spirits as he larked about alongside his costar Emma Thompson, 60, and his wife Susan

She wore her newly bleached tresses in a cropped style and wore a natural makeup palette to enhance her flawless features.

The duo shared a warm embrace on the red carpet before breaking out into a variety of hilarious animal poses.

Emma plays Polly the talking parrot in the film and did not shy away from embracing her role at the screening.

Swarve: The Iron Man actor was dressed in a pale burgundy suit that featured a loose fit

She posed alongside a crouched down Robert with her arms outstretched to resemble bird wings.

In one photo she scrunched up her face while she peered down at the actor who held his fingers to his chin in a pensive pose.

Robert joined in on the animistic action when he began to beat his hands on his chest like a gorilla, much to the delight of his beaming wife Susan Downey who matched her husband in a burgundy blazer worn over a black floral maxi dress.

Costars: The film’s lead wore a pair of Dr. Martens on his feet and a crimson scarf around his neck

Animals behaviour: Robert joined in on the animistic action when he began to beat his hands on his chest like a gorilla

Laughter:  Much to the delight of his beaming wife who matched her husband in a burgundy blazer worn over a black floral maxi dress

What’s going on: She too sported a pair of Dr. Martens for the event and could not resist joining in on the animal behaviour

Also there was film star Tom Holland, 23, who plays long-haired lurcher Jip in the movie.

Instead of embodying the character on the red carpet like his costars, Tom decided to bring an actual dog to the screening- his beloved pooch Tess.

The adorable pooch donned a blue sequined collar as she enjoyed her day out alongside the dapper Spider-Man star who sported a black bomber jacket with a studded collar.

Smiles: Robert is the lead in the film and plays Dr Dolittle

Funny: The star put on an affectionate display with the gorgeous Emma Thompson who dazzled in a navy coat with a gold leaf pattern over it

The film hit theatres on January 17 and also stars Antonio Banderas, Michael Sheen, John Cena, Selena Gomez, Rami Malek and more.

Dolittle is being pegged lackluster by reviewers, with many annoyed by both Robert Downey Jr’s  and the CGI animals’ performances.

The film, directed by Stephen Gaghan, has already even been deemed as ‘the first worst movie of 2020’ ahead of its release.

Having fun: She wore her newly bleached tresses in a cropped style and wore a natural makeup palette to enhance her flawless features

It was revealed Friday that rewritten scripts and adding more animal scenes to Dolittle delayed its release by nearly nine months.

The film had a $175million budget.

But studio executives were unsatisfied with a test screening of the film in fall 2018 and demanded more comedic lines, more computer generated animals and an overall more lighthearted tone, reported The Wall Street Journal.

Animal whisperer: The film follows the tale of Dr Doolittle who has the gift of being able to speak to animals

Monkeying around: The film hit theatres on January 17 and also stars Antonio Banderas, Michael Sheen, John Cena, Selena Gomez, Rami Malek and more

This led to three weeks of re-shoots with two new directors and screenwriters to make the film more appealing to family audiences and those overseas, although early reviews have been less than kind.

The Journal notes that with box office revenues falling and international sales making up a larger share of the market, there is a need to connect with a broader audience.

Additionally, several studios are trying to create films that can create sequels or even spin-offs, similar to Disney.

Proud: However Dolittle is being pegged lackluster by reviewers, with many annoyed by both his (Robert Downey Jr.) and the CGI animals’ performances

What’s more, January is among one of the worst months for movies, when several studios release their projects that they know will not make a great deal of money commercially.

A Universal insider told The Journal that the studio expects Dolittle to make around $25million this weekend – very small compared to the movie’s large budget.

Adorable: Also there was film star Tom Holland, 23, who plays a dog in the movie. Instead of embodying the character on the red carpet like his costars, Tom decided to bring an actual dog to the screening
