Erling Haaland receives major fitness update ahead of Liverpool showdown

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has received a significant injury update ahead of the return of club football this weekend.

The Norway international became one of a several Manchester City first-team stars to sustain fitness problems during the opening days of the November international break, taking on a problem in his ankle during the 2-0 victory over the Faroe Islands.

While the injury did not force Haaland off the field of play prematurely given the problem arising late in the contest, fears over his longer-term availability for Manchester City arose, with a number of high-profile fixtures looming across competitions in the coming days.

City host Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend in a mammoth clash at the top of the division, and the reigning top-flight champions have now received an update on the fitness of their striker ahead of the meeting with Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Mateo Kovacic is expected to be ruled out for up to three weeks with a muscular problem, while Nathan Ake, Ederson, and Matheus Nunes in particular all had to withdraw from their respective international call-ups due to fitness issues.
