Facundo Pellistri, a winger for Manchester United, has done it once more. He always appears to have an effect.
Following his recent role in Uruguay’s demolition of Lionel Messi’s Argentina last week, Facundo Pellistri has guided his country to even another triumph.
This time, Facundo Pellistri made a significant contribution by providing an early assist that Darwin Nunez was unable to miss.
Pellistri has grown into a significant player for Marcelo Bielsa’s revamped team, who now lead the Conmebol World Cup qualifying standings.
After their win over Argentina, in which the Uruguayan press awarded the Manchester United winger a 9/10 grade for his performance, Uruguay were favourites to beat Bolivia, understandably so.
They eased towards a comfortable win with Pellistri providing the assist for the opening goal in just the eighth minute.
Pellistri’s contribution was exactly what Manchester United fans have learned to expect from him. He ran directly at the opposition, carrying the ball to the goal-line, before cutting it back precisely for Nunez to score.
It was an expert piece of wing play from the 21-year-old, who completed 100 per cent of his passes in the first half.
.
There is a certain Danish striker in the Manchester United team who could benefit from Pellistri’s wing play.
They have barely seen the pitch together this season, with Erik ten Hag not yet fully trusting the Uruguayan, despite glimpses of what he is capable of. Pellistri does have one assist this season, for a matchwinning goal against Fulham.
Uruguay’s success is a result of Bielsa’s faith in Pellistri. Nor are Pellistri’s colleagues dominating the right wing position. He needs to get on the winning team now.
Manchester United fans were excited to see Pellistri shining on the international stage, and hope it can translate to club form.

One wrote: “Pellistri being his country’s best playmaker isn’t talked about enough.”
Another added: “Pellistri > Antony and it’s not even close,” with a third comment reading: “Hojlund needs a Pellistri type of winger to be able to score more goals.”
A fourth fan added: “He needs to be starting for us man,” with another writing: “Kid deserves a start this Sunday! Huge robbery if he doesn’t.”
Another fan account wrote: “He may not be a superstar, but he’s an honest player who probably deserves 5 or 6 matches in a row.”
More comments included: “Pellistri is a proper baller man. I’m always impressed every time I watch him play for Uruguay then he goes back to getting zero minutes for Man Utd,” and “Pellistri might just be our best winger.”
After the international break, let’s see whether Erik ten Hag plays more. Pellistri still has unrealized potential at United. Give him a genuine opportunity to demonstrate his abilities.
