Kings Coach Shares Wild Story From De’Aaron Fox’s Summer Workout With Stephen Curry

De’Aaron Fox was exhausted and had cramps in his forearms after his first workout with Stephen Curry.

De’Aaron Fox chose to spend some time working out with Stephen Curry this past offseason and it’s safe to say the workouts were no walk in the park. Sacramento Kings assistant coach Luke Loucks was with Fox at the time and recently shared just how much of a toll the first workout took on the star guard.

“It was crazy the first time he worked out with him he was excited and he was ready to go, and by the end of the workout, his forearms were cramping,” Loucks said. “I’ve never seen anyone’s forearms (cramping), his forearms were cramping from not only the volume but how intense everything was.”

Loucks was keen to point out to Fox that this wasn’t something special for Curry. This is how the two-time MVP normally works out and it’s why he is so successful.

“When you see him in the NBA Finals or in Game 7 dropping 50, like that’s who he is,” Loucks stated. “So I think once you see that with your own eyes and you feel it, automatically his level of work is like, ‘Oh that’s what it takes? All right, here we go.'”

I don’t think anyone has ever accused Fox of not being a hard worker, but even someone like him was shaken by just how intense Curry’s workout was. He realized what kind of effort you have to put in to become great and Loucks says Fox is doing that now.

While those efforts should bear fruit in the long run, in the short term, working with Curry seems to have done wonders for Fox’s outside shot. The 25-year-old is shooting a career-best 37.2% from beyond the arc while attempting a career-high 8.6 threes per game.

The one hole in Fox’s game had always been the three-pointer and there has been major improvement on that front so far this season. As a result, he is averaging 29.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 6.0 assists, and 1.6 steals per game in this 2023-24 campaign.

An NBA Player Threw Up After Working Out With Stephen Curry For Five Minutes

This story about Fox’s forearms cramping after working out with the nine-time All-Star is far from being the craziest one we have heard. Curry’s trainer once revealed that a player threw up after five minutes of working out with him.

“We’ve had a player, who’s still in the NBA, go through the first five minutes, sat down on the floor besides the door for about 30 seconds, stood up, went outside and threw up, and was done.”

When you take that into consideration, Fox’s cramps don’t seem all that bad. We have no idea who that player was and we’ll probably never find out. These stories are a reminder, though, that while what Curry does on the court might seem effortless, he’s only gotten to that point by putting in the hard yards.

Draymond Green Spoke On Curry’s Work Ethic

Draymond Green has seen Curry up close and personal for over a decade now in their time together as teammates. He has seen the work that the two-time MVP puts in and last year, Green spoke about Curry’s work ethic, revealing that it would take someone two and a half hours to do the workout that he does in 30 minutes.

Draymond also shared how the 35-year-old getting stronger post-2020 has made him more effective on the court. Thanks to all his hard work behind the scenes, Curry is now averaging 29.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 0.8 steals per game in his 15th season in the NBA.
