16-year-old student athlete joins Adidas as a Basketballer, sets record

16-year-old student-athlete, Darryn Peterson has set a record as the first-ever high school student to be signed by Adidas as a basketballer.

Darryn Peterson is a student of Huntington Preparatory College, a basketball-focused college, in West Virginia in the United States. He is the best guard player in his class.

Darryn has already received 30 scholarship offers for Division 1 college sports in their junior year of high school and has averaged 31 points and nine rebounds per game in his second year in the school.

He was signed with the Adidas shoe company as a NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) athlete. This achievement made him the first-ever high school student to be signed by the shoe company.

“The deal gives me the opportunity to take my brand to the next level and spread it around the world. It means a lot. For Adidas to choose me out of all the high school basketball players in the world,” Darryn said.

”For them to take a chance on me is a big deal. It’s an honor and a blessing,” he added. He also has a valuation of $269,000 and is included in the top 25 high school basketball rankings.

He stated that he is keeping his options open and staying grateful despite the many opportunities he is getting. He offers advice to other young athletes to stay focused on their dreams.

“Keep the main thing the main thing. Focus on whatever that dream is, and the business part will come with it. Don’t let that drive you. Stay humble and be self-motivated,” he said.

Darryn said he is considering his future in college and has plans for his collegiate career. “I’ll probably start looking at my recruiting during my junior year. I want to play for a coach that is going to hold me accountable,” he said.
