It will be Mahomes’ first-ever game at Lambeau Field

Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin is hallowed ground in the NFL. Scores of iconic players have plied their trade at the stadium nicknamed “The Frozen Tundra” — but Patrick Mahomes isn’t one of them.
That all changes Sunday, when Mahomes and his Kansas City Chiefs visit the Packers for Sunday Night Football. Surprisingly, this will be the two-time Super Bowl champion’s first time touching the grass at Lambeau — and it sounds like he is salivating at the opportunity.
Mahomes “extremely excited” to face the Packer faithful
NFL scheduling quirks have prevented Mahomes from playing in Green Bay since he debuted for Kansas City in 2017. The Chiefs have not visited Lambeau in eight years, two seasons before Mahomes was drafted — and Sunday night’s contest will mark just the third Chiefs-Packers game in Green Bay this century.
“I’m extremely excited for it,” Mahomes said Wednesday. “I’ve watched it my whole entire life, and I know it’s going to be a hostile environment. The fans are going to be loud, it’s going to be a lot like Arrowhead is to other teams.”
The Packers have a 3-2 record at Lambeau this season and need a win to remain in the hunt for a wild-card berth in the NFC. Green Bay has won two of the past three meetings with Kansas City — but this one won’t have Aaron Rodgers under center, which explains why the Chiefs are six-point favorites.
Nevertheless, the Lambeau atmosphere could be tricky for Mahomes to navigate, and he will need his receivers to avoid the drops that have plagued the Kansas City offense at different points this season.

Mahomes on Wednesday praised Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love, whose recent displays — including a three-touchdown Thanksgiving in Detroit — have moved the Packers to the fringes of the NFC playoff picture.
“Jordan has gotten better and better every single game,” Mahomes said. “He’s always had the talent, but when you get more and more reps, you can see how much more comfortable he’s getting.”
Love has cut out his early-season turnovers and is gaining more steam as Green Bay’s long-term Rodgers replacement. He’s thrown 19 touchdowns to 10 interceptions this season, and he’s led the Packers to three wins in four games — turning around his team’s fortunes when it looked as if Green Bay would be finishing toward the bottom of the NFL standings.
Mahomes and Love have dueled once before, in a defensive struggle at Arrowhead Stadium in 2021. The Chiefs held on for a 13-7 win in what was Love’s first career start.
