And the legendary singer said he ‘never thought’ he would see a remake of The Lion King.
The 72-year-old singer – who penned and performed some of the movie’s biggest hits including Circle of Life and Can You Feel the Love Tonight – is thrilled the Disney movie has got a live action remake, but admits he didn’t ever think it could have happened until the success of Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book.
Speaking at the European premiere, he said: ‘It’s astonishing. I never thought it would ever happen but because ‘The Jungle Book’ was so wonderfully done and reinvented by Jon Favreau, this one has been done the same.
‘It will give a new, more realistic view of ‘The Lion King, the other one was obviously an animation, this one is not. And it’s just another notch up there for Disney and ‘The Lion King’. I’ve seen the movie, it’s fantastic.’

The Happy hitmaker collaborated on the soundtrack to the new live action remake of the Disney animated hit and he admits it was a ‘gift’ to be around such ‘legendary’ musicians and work on their versions of the iconic songs.
He said: ‘It is a gift. It is one of the best apprenticeships. It is one of the best – I didn’t go to college but this is college to me.
‘I was working around nothing but legends. It’s such an interesting thing because I know the original but to see the actual thing, what we’ve been working on for this new version, it just continues to blow my mind because you know where it came from and you know where it’s heading. It’s like what is this life.’

In the live-action movie, Donald Glover voices the lead role of Simba, and fans will hear both Donald and Beyoncé sing the classic song Can You Feel The Love Tonight, as well as a series of other tracks.
The Lion King reboot will be released on July 19. In the movie, a young Simba is forced out of the Pride Lands after the death of his father, Mufasa, who was killed at the hands of his own brother, Scar.
Simba flees into the jungle and eventually, reunites with his childhood friend Nala, who urges him to return to Pride Lands in order to reclaim his rightful throne.
The original Disney film was released in 1994, and starred Matthew Broderick as Simba, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, and Moira Kelly as Nala.

James Earl Jones, who voiced Simba’s father Mufasa in the original 1994 animated film, returns as the voice of him in the remake. The 2019 film was directed by Jon Favreau.
Reviews have been pouring in for the long-awaited movie and it seems that critics are somewhat divided, with many heaping it with praise and many claiming to have found it disappointing and somewhat drab.
Review curator Rotten Tomatoes list the film with a just-above-average 58 percent, reflecting the consensus that, while it’s visually beautiful, there is only so much emotion the audience can feel towards CGI animals.
