According to YG Entertainment, on the 4th, the music video for ‘Kill This Love’ exceeded 1.9 billion views on YouTube at around 6:13 AM. This achievement comes about 4 years and 8 months after the video was released on April 5, 2019, hinting at the steady love of global fans for the group.
With this, BLACKPINK becomes the first K-pop artist to have two music videos exceeding 1.9 billion views. Their other mega-hit song ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ had previously achieved the same milestone and is currently on its way to reaching 2.2 billion views.
‘Kill This Love’ features strong lead brass and grand drum sounds. The music video captivated music fans worldwide with BLACKPINK’s powerful and charismatic performance and the sophisticated visual aesthetics that maximize the mood of the song.
Especially notable are the addictive point choreography, including movements resembling the shooting of a rifle, which garnered praise and led to the music video being the only K-pop entry in the ‘Top 10 Most-Watched Music Videos of 2019’ worldwide.
The song itself has also left a significant mark on various global charts. Upon its release, it reached number 41 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 24 on the Billboard 200 in the United States, setting a record for the highest-ranking K-pop girl group at the time.
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK recently concluded their ‘BLACKPINK WORLD TOUR [BORN PINK],’ which was the largest world tour by a K-pop girl group, drawing approximately 1.8 million people.
Adding their performances as the first Asian artist headliners at the American Coachella Festival (with a combined audience of 250,000 over two days) and at the UK’s Hyde Park (65,000), they connected with a total of approximately 2.115 million fans, reaffirming their status as a ‘world class’ act.
