Dragon Ball author explains why Saiyans have blonde hair when transformed

After transforming, the Saiyan’s power increases incredibly. Their hair color also changes from black to blonde in the anime and white in the manga. What’s interesting is that this hair color variation has a specific reason, which is to increase efficiency when drawing.

Author Akira Toriyama initially decided to choose white hair for the Saiyan in Super Saiyan form in the manga, because drawing would be simpler without having to color it black. This is due to the limitation of having only one assistant who is not a hair color expert. When the series was adapted into an anime, the Super Saiyan user’s hair was blonde, maintaining similarities with the manga version.

This decision based on simplicity and efficiency is not exclusive to Super Saiyan transformations. For example, the tails of Saiyans in Universe 7, including Goku, were removed in the series simply to make the drawing process easier. Originally, the tail was a special element added at the suggestion of editor Toriyama, but was eventually removed due to the complexity of constantly having to draw it.
