Dragon Ball: Strongest Families, Ranked

There is strength in numbers, and these Dragon Ball families take that to the next level.

Most Dragon Ball fights unfold in one-on-one matches. The martial artists test each other in intense solo matches. Not only is this the honorable option, but it often poses the greatest challenge to an individual. That said, fans shouldn’t discount group combat.

Many of the mainstay Dragon Ball fighters have started families, and they’re among the strongest families in existence. Not only do the characters pass on their inborn strength, but their offspring go through more intense training regimens. The result is some truly mighty dynasties capable of toppling the multiverse.

5. Frieza’s Family

It takes a tough cookie to rule over other warriors, and Frieza fits the bill. The chilly conqueror possesses power feared throughout the galaxy. He uses that power to subjugate countless species and make them part of his empire. Those who don’t submit are annihilated. Frieza can conjure enough energy in his finger to wipe out an entire planet. His father, King Cold, has comparable might. That is, until Frieza starts training. The alien despot multiplies his power in a shockingly short time. The resulting villain can match Goku and Vegeta at their peak. These factors mean Frieza is an ever-present threat. Of course, fans can’t forget his brother.

Though not part of the official canon, Cooler is still a worthy foe. He and Frieza spend their lives competing. He even beats his brother to an additional form. He also trumps him in robotic enhancement. While Mecha Frieza is haphazardly assembled and possesses no new tricks, Meta Cooler is an upgrade in every way. His hive mind lets him command legions of copies, each with brutal brawn and self-repairing capability. They’re more effective than any Frieza Force. Moreover, they show that this family could have an invincible reign if they simply work together.

4. Beerus & Champa

It figures that Gods of Destruction would be intimidating opponents. Beerus is a feline foe assigned to be the Destroyer deity of Universe 7–the home of the franchise’s heroes. He wields a mysterious energy capable of eradicating any matter in its vicinity, easily dispatching the most experienced warriors. In fact, his inherent might is only vulnerable to two forces. One is the Super Saiyan God transformation.

The other is his brother, Champa. Despite his hefty appearance and childish demeanor, he’s Beerus’s equal. They can both destroy anyone or anything with a flick of the wrist. Sadly, they don’t get along. When they come to blows, the ensuing battle puts a strain on both universes. It’s a good thing they spend most of their time slouching.

3. Vegeta’s Family

Imagine royalty in a warrior race. King Vegeta lords over his fellow Saiyans with regality and brutality. Despite being subservient to Frieza, he inspires a respect all his own. Onlookers view his bloodline as elite.

That mindset carries over to his son, Prince Vegeta. This is the prideful fighter that fans know and love. He never stops training to be the best: a goal which drives him to heights many thought to be impossible. His battle prowess eventually rivals the gods themselves. Later, he passes his power to his own son.

Trunks surprises even Vegeta with his inborn strength. He achieves the Super Saiyan form at only eight years old. Granted, he doesn’t advance much past this, but it’s still no small feat. That’s not even counting his alternate version.

Trunks’s counterpart from an apocalyptic future knows nothing but conflict. His hardships forge him into a battle-hardened fighter. After training in the present, he achieves Super Saiyan 2 on his own. Plus, he can channel others’ energy into his sword in a technique similar to a Spirit Bomb, letting him strike down enemies far stronger than him. Truly, this multiversal family is worthy of its elite status.

2. Goku’s Family

The most famous family in Dragon Ball also happens to be one of the mightiest. As the enthusiastic protagonist, Goku is always looking to better himself. He comes back from every beating with renewed resolve and valuable lessons. That pattern has propelled him to the top of the Saiyan heap. He constantly breaks through his limits and finds some fresh transformation. More importantly, he sharpens his fighting instincts to a tee. One could say it’s all in his genes.

Goku’s whole family is a force to be reckoned with. His wife, Chi Chi, is the daughter of the Ox King and practiced martial artist in her own right. His father, Bardock, is a frontline fighter who’s easily on par with the established elites in the Saiyans’ heyday. His sons, Gohan and Goten, each attain the Super Saiyan level at a young age. In fact, the former has a latent power far beyond his peers. His angry, explosive energy is unparalleled once unleashed.

That energy is easier to tap into once he starts a family of his own. Gohan’s wife, Videl, is similar to Chi Chi in that she’s a lifelong fighter. She collars hardened criminals when she’s only a teenager, but their daughter, Pan, is even more of a prodigy. Not only does she perform superhuman feats as a baby, but she undergoes grueling training with Piccolo at only three years old. This clan breeds so many warriors that it’s unreal. No other family can match them in the sheer number of fierce fighters.

  1. The Angels

Superior to the Gods of Destruction are their caretakers: the Angels. That position should speak for itself, but they also demonstrate their power more often. Whis regularly spars with Goku and Vegeta, staying one step ahead of them with little effort. This comes from absolute awareness of his surroundings; his body acts on pure instinct without wasting time with thought. His sister, Vados, seems to possess a similar gift in controlling Champa. This unbeatable duo is capable of subduing deities.

Their father is presumably even greater. The Grand Priest attends to Grand Zeno: the ruler of all universes. Combined with the fact that he sires such amazing children, this makes him a being who’s ominous in his silent might. Truly, theirs is an angelic dynasty of champions.
