After watching a San Andreas 2 trailer, fans of the first movie have been left asking if it’s the real deal. Is the sequel coming out in 2024 with Dwayne Johnson returning alongside Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario, and Paul Giamatti? Here’s all you need to know.
Is the San Andreas 2 trailer for 2024 real or fake?
The San Andreas 2 trailer gaining traction on the internet is fake as the film is still in its early development stages and hasn’t been shot.
The above trailer for San Andreas 2 was recently launched by the Foxstar Media YouTube channel. While it features devastating earthquakes, a voiceover dialogue from Paul Giamatti, and shows The Rock driving a car, we can safely say that the trailer is not real.
Foxstar Media is famous for coming up with fake fan-made trailer montages and the above footage is an example. The channel also launched another fake San Andreas 2 trailer in late October 2023, which can be seen below:
After San Andreas made $474 million at the box office, The Hollywood Reporter revealed in 2016 that another disaster-centric movie was greenlit. But since then, the sequel has been stuck in a development limbo. While speaking with Josh Horowitz on his Happy Sad Confused podcast, Paul Giamatti gave a disappointing update about it.
The actor said:
“It’s been talked about. It’s true. You’re right though, and every now and then I hear somebody brings it up they’re like ‘eh.’ My agent will be ‘but you know, San Andreas 2, they’re talking about that.’ And I’ll be like ‘really?’ Then nothing. Then nothing happens.”
So, it’s safe to say that the film is far from being shot as it doesn’t even have a script yet.
Will Dwayne Johnson return for San Andreas 2 in 2024?
Dwayne Johnson might return for San Andreas 2 if it happens. But the film is definitely not coming out in 2024.
The Rock’s schedule is far from clear. He is set to appear in Red One, Red Notice 2 & 3, a future Fast and Furious installment, and a live-action Moana movie. While Red One is shot and almost ready to release, at least two of his other four upcoming movies will go into production in 2024. So even if San Andreas 2 gets a concrete script, Dwayne Johnson may not return for it anytime soon.
