New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is seemingly on his way out of the franchise where he has spent the last 23 years and it will all come down to how Sunday’s Week 15 clash against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs unfolds.
Ever since Tom Brady left the Patriots in 2010, Belichick has been unable to record winning season, with every year only getting worse than the previous one. Now that the writing seems to be on the wall, his future in New England is in the hands of Mahomes.
Obviously, Belichick will be a legend in New England no matter what, but beating the Chiefs (8-5) would give the Patriots (3-10) something to celebrate this season.
On the contrary, losing to the reeling Chiefs, who are coming off back-to-back defeats, would all but seal the mindset that Belichick is not the same coach as before.
Bill Belichick must copy Tom Brady to succeed
Nick Wright of “First Things First” on FS1 recently made the case that the only way for Belichick to win another ring in his career would be to follow Brady’s path.
Wright believes the only option that makes sense for Belichick is to coach the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where Brady won his seventh ring.
In any case, beating Mahomes one last time before leaving the Patriots won’t hurt, but losing will doom him.
