The 2023 season was a second less-than-ideal season for Mercedes, as they once more failed to beat out their bitter rivals Red Bull to a championship. The Brackley-based team could not manage a single win the whole year, a first in over a decade for the eight-time Constructors’ Champions.
Lewis Hamilton fought hard throughout the season, earning seven podiums to attain third place in the Drivers’ Championship, In his second winless season in a row, the seven-time World Champion said he felt ‘emotionally drained’ after a long season of racing.
Lewis Hamilton finished behind both Red Bull drivers, beaten by his rival Max Verstappen for the second time since losing the 2021 championship to the Dutchman. With the W15 undergoing a full revamp for the 2024 season, Hamilton will be hoping to strike back at Verstappen.
The 2023 United States Grand Prix in Austin was a controversial race with two disqualifications post-race for Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc. Hamilton, who finished second, lost out on valuable points in his bid for second place in the championship, losing ground to Sergio Perez.

The US GP was the closest Hamilton got to a race win all season long, nearly matching Max Verstappen’s pace throughout the race. Even though the Briton was disqualified and his teammate George Russell managed only fifth, Toto Wolff claimed the race was the best for Mercedes all year due to the successful implementation of upgrades.

The US Grand Prix later came under more scrutiny as the Haas F1 team attempted to improve their results in the race by requesting a right of review to investigate if drivers went off track enough to warrant penalties. Though this was not granted, it did incite the FIA to make changes to the rules regarding the right of review.
