Kanye West’s appreciation for vintage football shirts continued on Thursday night, when he posted a picture of himself wearing Portsmouth’s goalkeeper kit from the ’90s.
Earlier this year, the American rapper got fans talking when he was spotted in a grey and red retro Manchester United jumper from the early 90’s.
Then, back in October, West turned up to the Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou event in Saudi Arabia wearing a classic Premier League jersey.
As you can see from the picture below, the old Premier League logo was visible on the black top, which also featured Adidas’ iconic three stripes.
Many speculated as to what shirt the 46-year-old was sporting, but many believed it to be Liverpool’s goalkeeper shirt from 2011 – a jersey worn by Pepe Reina.

Two months after the event in Riyadh and West got tongues wagging again on Thursday after he posted a picture of himself wearing Portsmouth’s goalkeeper kit from the 1996-97 campaign.
In fact, the shirt was only worn once – by former Pompey shot-stopper Alan Knight – in their FA Cup quarter-final clash against Chelsea in 1997; so we’re not entirely sure how he’s managed to get his hands on it.
The League One side’s official X account have since got involved in the action, posting the picture on their account alongside the caption: “Up Ye Blues.”

Here’s how fans on social media reacted to the bizarre series of events.
One said: “How and why is he wearing it?!” while another commented: “Rumour has it Kanye caught one of Knightsy’s goal kicks which went straight out of play near the tunnel, and has been a big fan ever since.”
A third wrote: “On today’s episode of things I wasn’t expecting to see.”
A fourth said: “Kanye West wearing a #pompey shirt was not what I expected to see before the end of 2023. Up the blues,” while a fifth added: “Kanye West has Alan Knight posters in his room.”
West’s allegiance when it comes to supporting a football team has never been confirmed, although he has attended numerous games in the past, including AC Milan’s win over Genoa in October.
