“I’ve always felt what I do is extraordinary – being able to make these pictures and doing something you love. So, I’ll just keep doing it. I love it, I don’t do it for the awards.”

The Vanilla Sky star shared that he has been approached for movies with the claim that it would land him an Oscar, but winning an Oscar was never a career goal for him. “I didn’t grow up watching the Oscars, so it’s never been a goal,” he said, as per the Irish Examiner.

The HFPA was under fire due to its lack of diversity, and several Hollywood stars, including Scarlett Johansson and Mark Ruffalo, called for the industry to step back from Golden Globes. Netflix, Amazon, along with WarnerMedia also boycotted the HFPA, and NBCUniversal declared that NBC would not air the 2022 Golden Globes award ceremony.

In an attempt to reform the organization, HFPA added 21 new members to represent “diversity and inclusion” in 2021. Later, in July 2022, the HFPA membership voted to approve the transfer of ownership of the Golden Globes to Eldridge Industries. The reports stated that it would be turned into a private entity separate from the HFPA’s charitable programs, which will be managed as a non-profit entity.
