24 countries are vying for the largest prize in African football as the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations gets underway in Ivory Coast on January 13.

Seven-time champions Egypt, who has won seven AFCON titles, is in Group B with Ghana, Cape Verde, and Mozambique. The Pharaohs will be hoping to add to their record.

Egypt will be counting on a team that combines youthful energy with the experience of players like Mo Salah, Ahmed Hegazi, Mohamed Elneny, and goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy.

With almost 90 caps over his 12-year tenure with the national team, the Liverpool striker is the most seasoned player in the group.

On Sunday, January 14, Rui Vitoria’s team takes on Mozambique in Abidjan. Four days later, they play Ghana in what promises to be their toughest group stage test. On Monday, January 22, Mo Salah and company will play their final Group B match against Cape Verde, marking the end of Egypt’s group stage.

The Reds might be without their best player for more than a month if Egypt wins the tournament in Ivory Coast, which would put them in the final match on February 11 in Abidjan.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said, “Do you want to play without Mo, no,” in reference to Salah’s absence. However, we always manage to get over this phase, so I have no doubt that we will do so again.
