Anne Hathaway has given her take on the continuing speculation surrounding this year’s Oscars host, opining that the ceremony might be “better” to go without a host this year.
Actor and comedian Kevin Hart was initially selected by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as the host of the grand ceremony on February 24. However, Hart withdrew from the role last month following a row over a number of homophobic tweets he posted between 2009 and 2011 which were re-circulated following his confirmation as host.
Hathaway, who co-hosted the Oscars with James Franco back in 2011 in a performance which drew a slew of negative reviews from critics and fans, has now suggested that the Academy should proceed without selecting a replacement host.

“Sometimes it’s better to go with no host than force something that’s just not working,” she told Watch What Happens Live yesterday (January 24) during a quick-fire segment where she was asked about what the Academy should do.
With no host still in place, it’s likely that this year’s Oscars will be the first to be held without a host since since 1989.
The nominations for the 2019 Oscars were announced earlier this week, with Roma and The Favourite leading the running with 10 nominations each.
Rami Malek is up for Best Actor for his role as the late Freddie Mercury in the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, while Olivia Colman (for The Favourite) and Lady Gaga (A Star Is Born) are among the nominees for Best Actress.
