Jennifer Lopez got emotional when she received the Generation Award at the MTV Movie & TV Awards in Santa Monica on Sunday.
The tears started flow when she acknowledged her two children ‘for teaching me to love’ and thanked the people who have ‘been true and those who have lied to her.’
She also gave a shout out to her fiancé Ben Affleck at the very end of the speech saying: ‘Ben and everybody at home, wait for me to have dinner. I will be home by 7!’

Accepting the honor with genuine gratitude, the triple threat entertainer recognized her supporters, as well as those who have discredited her during her journey, while delivering a ‘different kind of list of thank-yous.’
After soaking in a rousing ovation from the audience, Lopez reminisced about the many people she has worked with during her career in film.
‘You’re only as good as the people you work with,’ she shared, in a reference to the incredible success she has achieved since breaking in to Hollywood in the 1980s.
She then confessed that she was lucky enough to work with people who made her ‘better.’
The Bronx, New York native went on to set up her unique list of thank yous by sharing that ‘you can not create truth unless you’ve really lived it.’

Singled out: Lopez went on to give an extra special thank her manager, Benny Medina, who she said was “the one persona who believed in me from the beginning’
‘I want to thank all the people who gave me this life,’ she began. ‘I want to thank the people who gave me joy, and the ones who broke my heart.’
Pausing a moment she continued: ‘The ones who were true, and the ones who lied to me,” Lopez continued.

‘I want to thank the way that I lied to myself, because that’s how I knew that I had to grow.’
The Hustler star went on to thank ‘disappointment and failure for teaching me to be strong,’ and her 14-year-old twins Max and Emme, ‘for teaching me to love.’

The Generation Award celebrates ‘beloved actors whose diverse contributions to both film and television have turned them into household names,” according to MTV.
Past recipients include Scarlett Johansson, Dwayne Johnson, Chris Pratt, Reese Witherspoon, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Wahlberg, Sandra Bullock, Jamie Foxx, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Tom Cruise, Jim Carrey and the Fast & Furious franchise, among others.
Giving thanks: at the end of the speech Lopez started pointing at all the fans in the room while saying, ‘You, you, you, you and you — you are the reason that I am here, and that I have been here, and I love you!’
