Jason Momoa could be set to depart his role as Aquaman if the new bosses of DC Studios have their way.
It’s reported that James Gunn and Peter Safran are preparing to unveil a string of dramatic changes across the network which could ruffle several feathers.

Hollywood legend Jason, 43, has played Aquaman since 2016 when he made a cameo in the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice film, before taking on the main role just one year later in Justice League.
Since then, he’s appeared in character in the likes of The Lego Movie 2 and Zack Synder’s Justice League but it’s claimed that the 2023 film Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom may be his last in the role.

The Hollywood Reporter claims that he’s being eyed up to take on the role of Lobo in the DC Studios franchises, with a report from the publication stating: “The character of Lobo, a foul-mouthed cigar-chomping intergalactic bounty hunter, has been mentioned in connection with Momoa.
“Whether or not Momoa does play everybody’s favourite bastich, Lobo emerging as a rising character early on in the conversation may point to the kinds of characters the Gunn-Safran team may be focusing on.”
Despite allegedly being at the front of a plan to hang up his boots as Aquaman, the reports state that Jason would be a “pivotal figure” in the new plans launched by DC Studios.

Reports suggest that new bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran are focusing on the likes of Lobo rather than previously established characters.

Insiders claim that Gunn is keen to take “off-beat” and “quirky” characters and turning them into fan favourites.
Should a film focusing on Lobo go into production, it will be the character’s first major outing on-screen, despite making cameos in animated shows and the live-action series of Krypton.

But Rampage writer Brad Peyton was rumoured to be creating the script for the show with Dwayne Johnson allegedly in talks to play Lobo – although he left to play Black Adam.
The film was rumoured to be back in project in 2018 following the astronomical success of Deadpool but it never materialised.
The film world was left stunned in October when it was announced that they would be taking on the role, following Walter Hamada’s exit as head of DC.
