Max Verstappen has labelled the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual race a ‘clown show’ after he disconnected whilst competing. After impressing in the Formula 1 world by defending his world championship, Verstappen was out for similar success in the E-Sports arena.

And the Dutchman looked on track to do so, as he led the virtual 24-hour virtual race whilst competing for Team Redline on his PC. Chaos soon struck though, as the 25-year-old’s connection to the server was lost as he led the racing marathon.

Verstappen was then booted out of the race, surrendering his lead. Despite his issues his Redline team were still crowned the winners, after their number two entry prevailed.

The drama played out on the two-time F1 champion’s Twitch stream, followed bt an almighty meltdown from the 25-year-old. Verstappen did not hold back in his criticism of the virtual event, commenting: “They call it amazingly bad luck… well this is just incompetence.

“They can’t even control their own game. This is already the third time this has happened to me now, getting kicked off the game while doing this race.” The Dutchman’s rant continued, as he vowed to never compete in the race again.

He went on: “This is also the last time I’m ever participating because what’s the point? You prepare for five months to try and win this Championship, you are leading the Championship, you try to win this race which you have prepared for two months and they handle it like this.

“Honestly, it is a joke. You cannot even call this an event. It’s a clown show. That’s why it’s better to retire the car because driving around in P15 for six hours makes no sense for everyone. It’s a disgrace for all the effort we have put in as a team.

“I really hope the organisers consider where they put this race going forward because on this platform it’s not going to work.” Still raging, Verstappen revealed on the back of his disconnection he was now ‘uninstalling’ the game.

“It’s game over. I think I have more chance if I go to Vegas and go to the casino, I have more chance to win,” he added. “I think I’m going to uninstall the game. That’s nice…frees up a bit of space on the PC anyway. And I really hope everyone uninstalls the game.”
