The 62-year-old also offered an update on his holiday plans, explaining that the most important thing for him is to be with his family and cherish the time he has with them. “It’s special to me because two years ago when I was diagnosed, we just lost a guy,” Keith recalled. “There was a guy that said he’d been feeling weird, and we’re playing golf with him, and he went in, and they said, ‘You got two weeks to live,’ and he went away. The next month, I get diagnosed, and I’m just thinking about what just happened to that guy, that’s all on my mind.”
“And my son was getting married, and his wife didn’t have a father, and she had asked my son, Steven, if I’d walk her down the aisle. I said, ‘Sure,’” he continued. “And now I’m a month away from that, and I’m thinking, ‘I might not even make it that far.’ I didn’t know, you know? When you get diagnosed, you just freak. Here it is two years later, we’re headed for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Those things are more important than anything. I’m so blessed.”
Keith also touched on the importance of his faith in his recovery, telling Neal, “Almighty’s riding shotgun. I’m doing great.”

Prior to the Christmas holiday, Keith performed a three-night sold-out stint in Las Vegas at Dolby Live at Park MGM earlier this month. During his first show on December 10, the singer barreled through a 2-hour, 24-song performance including many of his hits like Should’ve Been A Cowboy,” “I Love This Bar,” “As Good As I Once Was,” “Beer For My Horses,” “How Do You Like Me Now?!” and more, as well as a tribute to the late Jimmy Buffett.
Keith addressed his current health ahead of his performance of “Don’t Let The Old Man In,” telling the crowd, “you think I’m dying don’t you… Me and Almighty’s got this, we’re good, y’all!” He added, “I get up every day of my whole life, even living out here, I try to be productive and I just ain’t going to let that old man in. I’m going to play it for you tonight. These are great ways to live by.”
During his interview with Neal, Keith joked that his Vegas run marked “one of the first times I’ve ever had to rehearse.” He continued, “I don’t ever get nervous, but I learned a long time ago that you can make a mistake. That’s where people get nervous, they’re afraid they’re going to screw up, but I’m not nervous.”

Following his time in Sin City, Keith may have a tour up his sleeve, as shared in a recent interview with Taste of Country Nights.
“It’s on the board,” he said of a full-scale tour. “They have got a great plan together, and we’ve built a new set, and we’re getting the trucks and buses fired up. Our plan is to go forward, don’t let this stuff define our future — let’s go.”
