One Piece: Senor Pink’s Sui Sui No Mi, Explained

Perhaps the only such fruit in Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece that permits its user to retain the ability to swim — albeit not in seawater — the Sui Sui no Mi is a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that was eaten by Senor Pink of the Donquixote Pirates’ Diamante Army. Its abilities are as absurd as they are unique, but in the hands of a seasoned assassin like Senor Pink, the Sui Sui no Mi is a deadly weapon for stealth and subterfuge.

Introduced during the Dressrosa Arc of One Piece, the Sui Sui no Mi’s powers were put on full show during Franky’s battle against Senor Pink, where the former was attempting to destroy the SMILE Factory on the island. Further down the line in the Egghead Arc, Dr. Vegapunk replicated this Devil Fruit’s abilities in the Seraphim S-Shark, with the aid of his new invention, named “Green Blood.” On this note, here is a look at what makes the Sui Sui no Mi unique and how its two users have applied its abilities in combat.

What Are The Sui Sui No Mi’s Abilities?

Manga Debut: One Piece Chapter #732 “An Underground World”

Anime Debut: One Piece Episode #664 “Operation SOP Starts – Usoland Charges Forth”

Permitting its user to swim on any surface, the Sui Sui no Mi has the power to turn the texture of any substance into something resembling water, as per the will of its user. From the ground beneath their feet, to the surrounding walls, a Sui Sui no Mi user can effectively swim anywhere they desire, making them a “Free Swimming-Human” in the process.

Furthermore, the Sui Sui no Mi’s powers can even defy gravity to an extent, since Senor Pink could swim upwards along walls if he chose to. Like other Paramecia-type Devil Fruits that have the power to alter the properties of external matter without an Awakening, the distortions to a substance’s texture will only apply in the case of the user, and the material will retain all its normal traits when others interact with it.

Once a Sui Sui no Mi user swims on a surface, the material will flow back into its earlier shape, without any trace of the distortion remaining. Alternatively, if a user falls from a height, they will be able to break their fall by diving into the surface below with the aid of their Devil Fruit powers. For Senor Pink, the Sui Sui no Mi was ideal for assassinations, as he could conceal his presence and move through areas discreetly.

The Limitations Of The Sui Sui No Mi

A Sui Sui no Mi user’s movement speed on a surface is dependent on how quickly they can swim, which places considerable importance on their physical fitness and form. The Sui Sui no Mi also does not grant the ability to breathe while submerged, which makes it necessary for them to surface periodically to take in air.

Beyond this, Sui Sui no Mi users are susceptible to conventional Devil Fruit weaknesses such as Seastone, Haki, and seawater itself. This is somewhat ironic, given how this fruit allows the user to swim through virtually any substance apart from the seas, oceans, and other water bodies in the world of One Piece.

How Did Senor Pink Use His Devil Fruit?

Due to his role as an assassin, Senor Pink often used his Devil Fruit abilities to swim through the ground to catch opponents by surprise from behind. What made this possible was the Sui Sui no Mi’s power to fully submerge its user within the substance they were swimming through, essentially concealing their presence through this method. In addition to sneaking up on enemies, Senor Pink could easily enter enemy bases and carry out assassinations efficiently.

For combat situations, Senor Pink was depicted using his Devil Fruit to attack enemies from odd angles, by swimming on surrounding surfaces, or through underground structures. By virtue of his expertise in hand-to-hand combat and wrestling, Senor Pink could harness his Devil Fruit powers to enhance their destructive power by a huge margin.

One of his most powerful moves with the Sui Sui no Mi was the NyanNyan Suplex: Baby Buster, which was a suplex move that involved several stages. Initially, Senor Pink swam towards his quarry from a distance while picking up speed, before grabbing them. He then proceeded to build up even more momentum, after which he ascends a vertical surface such as the face of a building.

Upon reaching the top of the building, he used the remaining momentum to rise above the building’s roof, before switching up his orientation in midair to use gravity to perform an incredibly powerful suplex. To avoid injuring himself, Senor Pink dove into the ground below at the last moment. In the Dressrosa Arc ofOne Piece, this move was used to finish off Franky, although the cyborg managed to survive the attack and eventually emerged victorious in their fight.

Taken To A New Level By S-Shark’s Fish-Man Karate

Following his imprisonment in Impel Down alongside the rest of the Donquixote Pirates, Senor Pink’s Lineage Factor was extracted by Dr. Vegapunk for the purpose of creating Green Blood — a substance that replicates Paramecia-type Devil Fruit abilities. This was then infused into the body of the Seraphim S-Shark, who is a clone of Jinbe.

In the hands of S-Shark, the Sui Sui no Mi was an even more potent weapon due to his Fish-Man genes, allowing him to swim at blinding speeds. Besides this, S-Shark’s can liquefy nearby surfaces as a means to use Fish-Man Karate techniques, which adds an entirely different variety of applications to this Devil Fruit power. While it may not be the most suited for direct combat when compared to other Paramecia-type Devil Fruits, the Sui Sui no Mi’s unconventional abilities can be potent tools when wielded by clever users, as seen in both of the individuals who gained its abilities in One Piece.
