After filling in the last few games at centre-back and starting each of their last ten games in all competitions, the 32-year-old was dropped to the bench by Erik ten Hag for tactical reasons.
But upon picking up an injury, Casemiro was then replaced in the matchday squad by defender Willy Kambwala.
Ten Hag said on the his absence: “Cas is not 100 per cent.
“Also we want in that space around Phil Foden, we need a strong defence.”
However, he took part in the celebrations on the pitch and in the dressing room.
Casemiro’s wife Anna Mariana shared a picture to her Instagram page of him and their two children, Sara and Caio, sitting on a jet ready for take off.
Anna, who married the midfielder in 2014, captioned the post: “Gone on vacation…. ✈️.”
And the flight may be a perfect metaphor to describe the former Real Madrid star’s future at Man Utd.
The club will listen to offers for the midfielder, who cost Man Utd an initial £60million two summers ago, but may have trouble finding someone who will match his wages of around £300,000.
A first successful season with the Red Devils where he was one of the most important players in the team gave way to a well below-par one this season.
He fired back at his critics in an interview with Sky Sports last week, saying: “I was considered one of the best signings of the Premier League last season, and now I’m not worth anything anymore?
“The criticism is disrespectful. So when it’s lacking respect, then it’s worrying, and I don’t have to respect that either.”
However, his massive wages have made the chances of a move back to Europe appear bleak.
Saudi Pro League Club Al-Nassr reportedly hold a firm transfer interest in bringing him to the Riyadh-based team to join old team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo.
Another star who went to Man Utd from Madrid, Raphael Varane, has already announced he is leaving the club when his contract expires.
In fact, £150m worth of talent is said to have been put up for sale by Man Utd’s new co-owners Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos, including Antony, Christian Eriksen and Casemiro.
SunSport delivered our verdict on the futures of the Man Utd players ahead of the colossal rebuild job this summer, with 12 players on the chopping board.
Man Utd manager Ten Hag has also seen his future questioned heavily around the final.
Reports suggest an end of season review will be conducted later this week which will confirm Ten Hag’s fate, though SunSport revealed the Dutchman will get sacked regardless of the Cup final victory.
Speaking on his future, Ten Hag said: “Two trophies in two seasons and three finals. That’s not bad.
“If they don’t want me any more I go somewhere else to win trophies. That is what I do.”
