The story tells of events in the 4th century AD, when the Roman Empire was heavily influenced by the ideology of Christianity. Hypatia was an intelligent female astronomer, mathematician, and philosopher, with extensive knowledge and often taught her students, including three young men – Davus, Orestes, and Synesius, about scientific concepts and her own beliefs.
The story depicts the romantic storylines, especially that of Davus. Not only was Davus a student of Hypatia, but he was also her slave. He also wanted to convert to Christianity in the hope of gaining his freedom.
