In this weeks episode we explore a beautifully crafted tiny house that has allowed a dynamic young couple to get onto their first step on the housing ladder. Especially in a city like Auckland, where the average house price is close to one million dollars, it’s hard for young people to get into their own first home. For that reason, increasing numbers of young people are turning to alternative living and tiny houses to make their start in life.

Laura and Declan have created a spectacular home for themselves. It’s modern, high quality construction has given them a wonderful first home and a brilliant asset which enables them to escape the rent trap and start building housing security.

In todays housing market, many young people have given up on the idea that they will ever be able to own their own home and have resigned themselves to being renters for life. What I love about stories like this one is it really shows how it’s still possible for people to get a foot on the housing ladder if they are willing to do things a bit differently!
