The pair were speaking to US talkshow host Jimmy Fallon about the third instalment of the cult sci-fi classic, which has just been nominated for a Grammy for its soundtrack.

And Reeves, 56, revealed to fans how he had to learn the bagpipes, among various other instruments for the movie.

He said: “The film opens up with Missi marrying my brother Deacon.

“So we were playing the wedding song and we figured ‘what could we play that would tell the story that we haven’t written the song to save the world but we’re trying’.

“So we came up with the idea of playing the Theremin to help fuel this masterpiece.

“So we had Theremin, bagpipes, trumpet, throat signing and percussion. Being the actors we really wanted to do that.”

Alex Winter stepped in: “Keanu actually learned to play all of the instruments, including the bagpipes.”

Reeves continued: “I can play one note on every instrument. With the bagpipes, it has to be in A but it doesn’t have to be.”

Fallon went on to describe a story about how he thought he had died when he heard the bagpipes, and Reeves’ film partner Winter swiftly quipped: “I thought I had died a few times when I heard Keanu playing the bagpipes!”

This left the trio in stitches on the video call.

Earlier this year we told you Keanu Reeves’ fans bid over $16,000 to spend 15 minutes on a Zoom call with the actor, with all the proceeds going to charity.

The Matrix star teamed up with Camp Rainbow Gold, a service that provides “emotionally empowering experiences to Idaho’s children diagnosed with cancer and their families.”

The market value of the auction was set at $10,000.

The auction site reads: “Bill & Ted. Speed. The Matrix. John Wick. You know him. You love him. This is truly priceless and now you have the chance to Zoom with him from home!

“Get your questions ready and spend 15-minutes with actor, director, producer and musician, Keanu Reeves.”
