Selena Gomez may fly the flag for real-girl vibes and body positivity, but clearly the trolls are still out to shame the most-followed woman on Instagram. Selena enjoyed a Mexico vacation at the start of the year, one seeing her chased by the paparazzi as she enjoyed a day out on the water.
With the media watching her every move, Selena stayed confident as she stunned the camera in a mismatched bikini. Unfortunately, though, the digital space quickly filled with hateful comments over the singer’s weight.

Selena was photographed semi-submerged in ocean waters and by a yacht as she showcased her feminine curves and a little weight gain. The Rare Beauty founder, whose life was saved by a kidney transplant in 2017, is known for a fluctuating weight, this as she battles the autoimmune disease, Lupus.
Rocking her black-and-white bikini like a boss, Selena shot the camera a winning stare as she proved nobody can get to her. The “Wolves” hitmaker even flashed her booty a little as she sizzled in a strapless white bikini top paired with high-waisted briefs in black.
Going wet-haired and makeup-free, Selena completed her stylish swimwear look via hoop earrings. Pop Base shared the photos on social media, calling the Only Murders in the Building star “gorgeous.”
Trolls Body-Shame Selena As Photos Go Viral
As documented by Glamour, the haters didn’t hold back. One user wrote: “Wow, pack on the pounds or what.”
Another spitefully called Selena “huge,” with a third saying that Selena “gotta lose some weight” as they added that she was “looking tubby.”
“The pop girlie who’s aging the worst, I fear [sic],” also came in.
One month later, Selena opened up about body-shaming and her own shape. Speaking to Vogue, the ex to Justin Bieber stated: “I tend to hold a lot of water weight and that happens very normally, and then when I’m off it I tend to kind of lose weight,” adding: “I just wanted to say and encourage anyone out there who feels any sort of shame for exactly what [you’re] going through, [when] nobody knows the real story… you’re beautiful and you’re wonderful.”
Selena wound up having the last laugh, though. 2023 brought major drama with model Hailey Bieber. As a result, fans rallied around Selena, with her IG following shooting up beyond what anyone could have imagined.
