Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s budding relationship has become the talk of the town from the sports world to the Swiftie world. The Grammy-winning singer was first romantically linked to the Kansas City Chiefs tight end this past summer, and as they’ve grown closer together, the public has been along for much of the ride.
Kelce opened up about what it’s been like for them to get to know each other in a new interview with The Wall Street Journal. At one point, when he realized that his relationship with the “Anti-Hero” singer was serious, he knew he had to introduce her to a special part of his personality: his love for comedians like Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, and Chris Farley.
“I told Taylor that I have that world [and] I’ve got to introduce it to her,” the Super Bowl champ said. “I let her know: This is my jam right here.” He went on to imitate Farley’s voice, and even has a sound bite of the late funny man from the 1995 movie Tommy Boy as his ringtone.
Kelce has been careful not to divulge too many details of their relationship, as Swift values her privacy and keeping some things out of the public eye. “That was the biggest thing to me: Make sure I don’t say anything that would push Taylor away,” he admitted.
He also commended her for keeping calm when constantly facing camera flashes and acknowledged it’s helped him put things in perspective. “The scrutiny she gets, how much she has a magnifying glass on her, every single day, paparazzi outside her house, outside every restaurant she goes to, after every flight she gets off, and she’s just living, enjoying life,” he said. “When she acts like that I better not be the one acting all strange.”
What a long way he’s come from trying (and failing) to give her his phone number.
